The L.A. Zoo is staying open after dark most nights through January during this delightful take on its light-up holiday tradition. For the 2023 edition, L.A. Zoo Lights is adding some new sculptures and “Winter Wildlands,” a section inspired by snow-loving animals. Here’s what had to say about last year’s event:
The event’s “Animals Aglow” edition has gone all in on oversized animal-shaped lanterns, and the result is a colorful, charming trail that celebrates the zoo’s natural inhabitants. The lanterns inspired by the venue’s wild residents (elephants, giraffes, koalas, and condors, among them) are plentiful and vibrant, and many of them come to life with playful movements (birds and butterflies flap their wings while a chameleon flicks its tongue). Flora shares some of the focus, too, particularly along the trail of pink cherry blossom lights.

Travel back to the 1920s for this massive Prohibition era-themed NYE party, set in Downtown’s 1930s Art Deco marvel, Union Station. The handsome station serves as the decadent celebration’s backdrop, featuring a DJ set from Chromeo, a jazz ensemble, burlesque dancers, custom cocktails and champagne. The fabulously dressed 21-plus crowd sets the scene—formal, Roaring Twenties attire is encouraged (think: flapper dresses, feathered headbands, tuxedos, top hats and spats). Stick around for the NYE countdown and dropping of a 60-foot custom ball!

This week in the City of Angels, the median list price for homes is $1,499,000. Now, let's talk about the market action index, which currently stands at 40. This index gives us a snapshot of the real estate market's health. Last month, it was slightly higher at 41, indicating a subtle shift.
With 1,332 properties on the market, there's been a slight increase in inventory. Now, here's the interesting part: despite the Market Action Index trending downwards, we're still in a Seller's Market. What does that mean? Well, it suggests that demand from buyers is strong, leaving limited options for available homes.
Over time, we've noticed a cooling trend in the market, and home prices have recently stabilized. However, if the Market Action Index starts to climb, it's a signal that prices may follow suit. On the flip side, if the index consistently drops or enters the Buyer's zone, we could see downward pressure on prices.

In summary, despite a cooling trend, Los Angeles is currently in a seller's market, and changes in the Market Action Index can provide valuable insights into potential shifts in home prices. It's a dynamic market, so both buyers and sellers should stay informed to make well-informed decisions.

Madeo Ristorante is a fine dining establishment in Los Angeles with over 35 years of serving northern Italian cuisine. Influenced by the coastal cuisine of Forte dei Marmi, the menu pairs the freshest local ingredients with premium European elements. Guests are welcomed with superior service and a wine list of more than 1250 selections from regions around the world.
Madeo Vietina was an ambitious traveler who made it around the world twice in the late 1800s and early 1900s. As a Navy Sailor, Madeo came to California in 1906 for a few months to offer support for the San Francisco earthquake, before coming back to Italy to marry his wife, Maitó. Together they had a daughter, Bianca. As she grew up, he told Bianca stories of his travels, including his time living in Los Angeles. Bianca passed on his stories and her recipes to Madeo’s grandson, Alfio.
To embrace his grandfather’s legacy and to pay homage to his mother’s unmatched cuisine, Alfio and his family opened Madeo in Los Angeles, and manage it to this day with his sons, Gianni and Nicola. In 2019, Gianni & Nicola also opened Bianca restaurant. To this day Alfio still says “Buongiorno Madeo!” every day he opens the doors. They also recently relocated to West Hollywood at the 1 Hotel, where my wife and I got married - so we especially love the view.

Musso & Frank’s is as much a cultural touchstone as it is a restaurant and bar. The interior has barely changed since 1919, and its old Tinseltown reputation is what makes it so special. In the early days, its clientele were writers; the Screen Writers Guild was across the street back then, as was the famed bookstore Stanley Rose. Raymond Chandler, Dorothy Parker, Dashiell Hammett, Ernest Hemingway, and F. Scott Fitzgerald all boozed it up at the bar. Famous actors through the ages have ranged from Charlie Chaplin and Marilyn Monroe to George Clooney and Brad Pitt.
The cocktails are staunchly classic, non-trendy, and old-school; say, a Negroni, a Manhattan, and a Sazerac. But it’s the stirred (never shaken) Martini that's considered one of the best in the world. At its core, Musso & Frank's is a grill. The menu features Welsh rarebit and lobster Thermidor, sure, but the kitchen is best known for meat, from bone-in ribeye to filet mignon to calf's liver steak.
This is a clutch spot for an after-work martini if you work near Hollywood. Otherwise, get the gang together for dinner—the old-school vibes and Hollywood ghosts are worth the trip.
